short F tuba newish molded case in MD

Post by bloke »

There's someone - who really seems to be a nice guy - in Maryland with a new-condition Wessex F tuba case.

I don't know whether it's MTS or a Chinese knock-off, but - like the JP sousaphone case (which is an MTS knock-off) it has butterfly latches.

It's really too short for a B&S F tuba, as the overall length is only 40 inches...but it might do nicely for some of the others.

His price is reasonable, and it just seems to me that there are probably a bunch of F tuba owners within commuting distance.

I was considering it for my B&S (and wasted his time talking to him; he never grew impatient with me), but I really don't want to do a complete re-blocking job and end up with only a 1/2 inch pad on each end.

I've decided to NOT purchase it, and am attempted to draw attention to it - if there's someone else you might find it useful.

In my personal experience, Wessex cases are adequate for storage but do no stand up to to even minor transportation needs (unless you are ok with rivets falling out).

I have no comment regarding that, but - since I was going to have to re-block it anyway - I've decided that re-blocking one of these JP (Hirsbrunner/Adams-ish) C tuba knock-off cases (look how many extra inches there are to accommodate the three additional inches of height of my B&S F tuba) will be considerably less work...and the case (though surely heavier) is thicker-walled, and sleeker. I WILL have to wait awhile for a "case-ONLY" to be shipped to the warehouse for me.

If that Wessex case were longer, I probably would have gone ahead and bought it.
