Have any of you out there seen this??
I discovered something on my King 1241. On the bell collar, I noticed some numbers which looked to be engraved or scratched in, for the people out there who have King 1241s or 2341s do you see this on yours? I had to look at it at an angle against light to see it.
You cant see it at all in the picture so I outlined where they are.

They sometimes put a partial serial number on a tuning slide (I think it had to do with tuning differences on recording and upright bells). I have 3-4 tuning slide here, some have a partial, some none at all. I'll check the two carcasses I have here to see if the tenon receiver has anything but I don't recall seeing anything.
Having enlarged your picture, I've only seen stamped serial numbers on Kings.

Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

Looks like inventory numbers to me. Don't worry; it's not a secret code or anything sketchy.

The plating is worn very smooth, and worn in general but good point. I’m thinking it was scratched or engraved in as you have to have a magnifying glass and the right kind of lightingYork-aholic wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 1:29 pm Having enlarged your picture, I've only seen stamped serial numbers on Kings.
