Hello all,
here is a compilation/comparison between a valve ophicleide, an ophicleide and an F tuba based on some orchestral passages from Richard Wagner's opera - The Flying Dutchman.
Have fun and enjoy!

Thanks! Such a shame that there wasn't a euphonium around.
I've always felt it would be a more appropriate replacement for the ophicleide in modern repertoire.

I like how the ophicleide goes with the trombones. I'd be interested to hear how it sounded on the low note, at 2:26 and at the end - knowing hardy anything about them, I have sort of gotten the impression that they don't have a lot going on down there.
Another sort of ophicleide sighting - a group in Brazil that plays an old popular choro style. Ophicleide e Bombardino - Boêmia Terra (Irineu de Almeida)

I just played the 1st ophicleide part to Symphonie Fantasique on tenor tuba (Wilson 4 valve euphonium with Roger Bobo tenor tuba mouthpiece) with the Civic Orchestra of Baton Rouge and it was lots of fun.
