Holton/Melton 6/4 BBb-SOLD

Post by Pakins51 »

This Horn is made up from a Holton 345 Body and a Melton piston Fafner Valve set. It is physically and sonically HUGE. The pistons feel amazing, and the slides are super smooth when greased up properly. I’m looking to get $5,500 for the horn with an Alteri Gig Bag, but i’m open to offers. Im located in Statesboro, Ga and will ship at the buyers expense.

I'm wondering if this is Mike Mason's old horn?

I am not sure whose it was originally. I know it's been in the south east for a few years now though.

Really good deal. I’m surprised it’s still around.

Nope. But virtually same concept. Mine was mostly smoothed by time satin silver with a silver Meinl Weston valve set. Great sound, lot of fun, challenging to steer at times.

A few years ago, at SCRTEC 2015 in osu ( I believe it was Vurl Bland who had it at his Tuba Traders booth) I played a 345 BBb that made me want to drop CC in favor of it. I think I offered the Meinl Weston 182 I was playing at the conference for trade on the spot, but he didn't take me up on that ):

Anywho, they're great horns. Good luck with sale!

Yeah, this price is pretty ridiculously low for anyone needing an earth mover.

This would be a backhoe of tubas?

For serious soundscapers only?

(just entertained by the thought and thought i'd share it. I don't do a lot of thinking, but i have my moments.)
