Rare meinl weston Eb?
Anyone ever heard of this one? I sure haven't
Meinl weston Eb tuba
Rotary valves (4 of them)
Removable bell
A friend says he owns one, I'm tempted to go over to his place to see what he has. I like Rotary Eb tubas, but I've never heard of one of these

Meinl Weston 2040?
Detachable bell is a head scratcher... But the 2040 is/was a legit option at least for some time

I'm thinking it's an older model. Like back in the getzen distribution days.

Wow, that's too bad. My 183 is a keeper. But it does not have a detachable bell, and I can't imagine what someone might have done to that one to wreck it.

As I read the first couple posts Mark, I started to suspect a 183.
I’ve played 2 of them and was very underwhelmed with each. @Mary Ann I think you must have got a gem.

Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

That explains why part of one of those is currently sitting on my workbench!York-aholic wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 7:34 pm I’ve played 2 of them and was very underwhelmed with each.

Re: Rare meinl weston Eb?
It is more difficult to play than the NStar was, but since I'm a horn player I'm used to things that are difficult to play (and I'm also working on oboe, which is the epitome of "things difficult to play.") Also it was set up by the previous owner in such a way that it works for me better ergonomically than any of the other tubas I have owned. The valve levers are closer together and the leadpipe angle is much better. It would be nice if I could get the valves vented. I'm very flexible in what I can make work, across the instrument spectrum. If something is too easy, I actually get bored with it. And it is MUCH easier to play in the low register than a typical rotary F. I don't know if it's a gem or just a good fit.York-aholic wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 7:34 pm As I read the first couple posts Mark, I started to suspect a 183.

Re: Rare meinl weston Eb?
Many years ago I had a MiraFONE 183 with a detachable bell-front.
It was probably the worst tuba I ever played on, ever.
It was so bad that I asked the person I sold it to, several times, if he was SURE he really wanted it.
