Below is a picture John "Red Cloud" Kuhn with the Isham Jones Orchestra...

Notice how he has his raincatcher sousaphone bell (whereby the bell flair is soldered to the bell elbow, and attaches/rotates back at the first branch) rotated to point FORWARD (imitating BELL-FRONT sousaphones) - as much as he could manage - without it blocking his line of sight or hitting himself in the head with it.

Raincatcher = symphonic.

Surprised Kuhn did ditch it altogether for a recording bell tuba in a smaller ensemble.
