U of M's head geophysicist (University of Memphis has a big department, because of the New Madrid fault, etc.) decided to take the trumpet up again "after all these years".

He brought in three...
a run-of-the-mill silver-plated Bach Stradivarius, an Amati pocket trumpet, and a 1912 Harrisburg, PA trumpet (that looked suspiciously like vintage Conn) for removal of piddly dents and to tighten the fit of a pair of slide tubes.

I was able to take care of his issues while wearing CLEAN clothes, work in a leisurely manner, and YET charge the same amount per hour that I charge to work on these big smelly, filthy tubas.

yeah...but they talk about all the same stuff...ie. how inconsequential physical differences are agreed-by-consensus to be consequential

Another TRUMPET repair walked in, today.

It was messed up pretty bad (and not the easiest make to repair) but I got it goin' in about an hour...though I had to buff it (a LITTLE bit) and hit it with some spritz).

To any 70-year-olds (who look fondly back at junior high band trumpet playing)...

...sorry, but those old Conn "shooting stars" director trumpets (in my opinion) were NOT built as well as the current Walmart trumpet offerings...and the fact that they were small bore has NOTHING to do with it.

Mrs bloke is suddenly getting a bunch of regular soprano clarinet work (plain old repads, play conditions, and stuck screw stuff) instead of BB flat Contra bass clarinet, beat up bent baritone saxophone, and wobbly neck and loose neck receiver in the body bass clarinet work.

Today - if we don't end up getting blown off to Oz, I'm going to work on that project where I'm making one nice Bach Stradivarius trumpet from two instruments. It's pretty tedious, but it's not a tuba.

I'm hoping a Conn bass trombone part arrives today, which would mean I could do some work on that instrument as well. It's also considerably smaller than a tuba.

I do need to do a little bit of work on a fiberglass King sousaphone I borrowed to get the valves working well. I've got a little Mardi Gras rehearsal tonight.
