avoiding confusion

Post by bloke »

While playing this thing - and trying to remember that E natural is NOT "no valves" but is actually SECOND valve, I began to become concerned about my super-customized Fat Bastard getting mixed up with with all of the other super-customized Fat Bastards out there - such as on a train station platform - when all of the professional full-time B-flat tuba players are headed off to work in the morning, etc...

...so I decided to add some identifying marks to mine, as shown below:

Image

EDIT:

THE RESPONSE OF THE DOUBLE LOW D SHARP HAS BEEN GREATLY IMPROVED BY THIS !!!
...so all of you other Fat Bastard owners should probably do the same thing...Hey...Wait a minute... :red:

They nearly look the same turned upside down, so it might offer the same benefit, as far as low range response is concerned, except backwards. :coffee:

Now you run the risk of mixing it up with your stubby Holton!

I've been wondering about soldering an 9" x 12" piece of white-painted sheet steel to the "U" portion of my cimbasso bell - so it would accept magnetic letters - and renting that advertising space out to businesses...

I had to re-lacquer it, anyway. :coffee:

That aerosol "epoxy" clear lacquer (that I discussed in the repair forum - that I was testing out) ain't worth a crap.

Trombones discovered the secret of the counterweight years ago. Now, could we do this with a GPS tracker?

I was having trouble with it coming out just from playing it before (when I shortened it for easier A=440 playing, I aligned it really well) but I built a friction brake for it. That can be seen in the repair forum.

How'd you make these? Bending, cutting? What's the material?

They are just cheap brass letters made in India that I found by clicking around on the internet. I may take them back off.
The lacquer I tested on this slide earlier was failing, so I went ahead and put the right lacquer on it and thought this might be a good joke.

Dang, I almost gave you too much credit for cutting these out of nickel silver or something.

You can give me credit for doing that, because I could, but I wouldn't waste that much time. Further, I would probably cut them out in an actual font.
