New Tuba Day - Eastman EBB-562

Post by rodgeman »

Hello all. Last Wednesday I received my new (demo) Eastman EBB-562 BBb four rotor tuba. I got a good deal from Dillon Music on it as it was a Demo horn.

This is the first brand new tuba I have owned. It came packed in a very big box. Well protected. I opened the box and it came with a hard shell case. It is very nice and offers good protection.

The Tuba. No scratches or dents on this one. The fit and finish did not have any flaws that I could see. It weighs about the same as my Cerveny 601. Feels very solid. Very nice to look at. Slides work well and the rotors are very smooth and solid.

Playing. I don't play as much as I used to so I have to get back into more practise. It feels good. The bore in .748". There is a Shires #3 mouthpiece that comes with it but I ordered a Dillon Music Turner G5B . New tuba, new mouthpiece. It slots easily and seems to help me play batter. The sound is very good according to my family and they like it over the Cerveny 601.

To describe build and playing of this tuba can be summed up in one word - solid. I have to get much better to match the tuba. All in all easy to play and enjoyable. Just have to find a group close to me to play in.

Thanks for reading.

Tuba picture in case.

Been playing it for a couple of months. Still enjoy the tuba. With the mouthpiece it really resonates. Makes playing easier but also shows me I need to play better and practice more. Very happy with the tuba.

Dillon music gave me a great price and shipped it well. I am using their Geib 5 mouthpiece which I also purchased.

Great you are enjoying the new horn. The bore is a little smaller than the Mira186. Have you had any time behind a 168 and, if so, how do they compare?

Just got a JP 379B 3/4 tuba but haven't played it exhaustively to really give an in depth assessment. So far, I'm able to play it in tune and like the rotors with the paddles..My fingers are kinda short and it was especially difficult to push down the 4th valve with my little finger using a piston tuba. zThe bell is much closer to my eat and I can hear myself much better. (It is a squatty. 3/4 BBb. zIt took it'd styling cues from the Cerveny Piggy and Arion. I've played 50 years and this is my new horn. I've always been the "Getting over needing new shiny stuff and will save you money. And should play as well as something shiny and new.

Hi Big Ben. Thanks for the reply.

I have owned two Mirafone 186 tubas - one bell up and one bell forward. They were older models and played well.

The Eastman plays similar. I don't feel the smaller bore as a hindrance. The Eastman is easy to play. It is bigger than the 186. I think it is almost a 5/4 size than 4/4. I have a long torso and it fits me better. Not as big as my Cerveny 601 that I was playing before this.

I hope this helps.
