Olds "99" 4v BBb Tuba (4/4)

Post by earthkin »

This Olds 0-99-41 tuba is a great horn. It’s been well maintained, with new corks on the spit valves. I believe it’s from the early 70’s, and has the scratches and small dings to show for it, but plays quite well. In the photo below, I turned the valves so you can see the sides with the most plating wear - somehow it's not enough to affect the overall response of the horn though. (I should mention that its only issue is that the 1st valve bottom cap has recently become stuck, but since my way of unsticking that would scratch up the cap, I've left it alone.) It has some custom modifications: I had the lead pipe lowered a few inches for more playing comfort, and the previous owner replaced the fixed thumb ring with a large adjustable one, and replaced the valve buttons with nicer Yamaha ones. Comes with a snug-fitting Miraphone gig bag that’s in great shape. If you want the original hard case as well, I can put you in touch with the previous owner who still has it.

$2400, or possible trade for lightweight Bb brass sousaphone or maybe a helicon. Local pickup in NYC much preferred. (I can only ship if you send/order me the shipping box.)

Yeah. Similar to a 4J. Olds was making Conn stuff when Conn was moving production around.

As long as you're logged into tubaforum, you should be able to send them a private message...
To make it even easier, this link should (??) work (as long as you're logged in).

nope, he's a new member, and until he gains full member status, he doesn't have access to the PM feature. He was right to give his email address

for that matter, I don't think the OP has access to his PM box either, so he really needs to post a way to contact him.
Yep, I'm Mark

Please then just delete my comment and the following ones, as all they do is cause confusion. @LeMark
