Found- Front piston tuba/sousaphone thumb ring

Post by WakinAZ »

Found.
Hello, I'm looking for a tuba/sousaphone thumb ring, preferably in lacquer or raw brass, but I could live with silver I suppose.

This is for a Reynolds BB-flat recording tuba, so a Reynolds thumb ring would be ideal, but I'm sure there are far fewer of those laying around than the King variety. Worst case, it looks like I can get a new Conn-Selmer thumb ring for about $30 shipped, : https://mouthpieceexpress.com/catalog/p ... s_id=27621

Anyway if you have something laying around that sounds like it will fit the bill, please let me know.

Still looking, edited post to reflect just about any thumb ring will do, as long as it's designed for a full size front piston tuba.

The one I linked to in the original post was nicely crafted, but too small. It was really more of a euphonium size.

Jason and Tom: I received and replied to both your emails, but I did not hear back from either one of you.

I don't understand why tuba rings are often so huge (inner diameter).

I think the Miraphone-sized ones are plenty large, unless a 5th lever is incredibly poorly-designed.

Otherwise, (I suspect) the crazy-large ones serve approximately the same purpose as these things on a sedan:

If only FOUR PISTON (and comfortably placed/angled) probably "only a bit larger than the diameter of the player's thumb" is fine.
