Aircraft Remover
Is it true that they've watered down "Aircraft Remover"?
I used it about 6-7 years ago to strip lacquer on a Besson Eb.
Any recent experience?
I'll probably post this on the Frankentubas FB group as well.

Re: Aircraft Remover
Don't waste your money on over-the-counter paint stripper, unless you want to end up disappointed and pissed off.

Re: Aircraft Remover
I love being disappointed and pissed off, which is why I play the tuba.
edit: but for real, thanks. Seeing what else is out there.

I am glad I am protected from ingesting methylene chloride now.

Re: Aircraft Remover
I'm using regular non-lemon full-blown easy-off oven cleaner and following up with carefully measured pressure washing with hot water. In other words, I'm very careful about the pressure.
I was given a satin-silver Pan American/14K sousaphone body with two or three coats of colored paint on it. I've just about got it off using these methods, but there's still some left.

Re: Aircraft Remover
Try this:
https://www.ferreestoolsinc.com/collect ... g-solution
I used it on a Miraphone 191 bell.
(Pictures to show it worked. Not as an example of up to standard repair techniques.)
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
Relatively easy, brush on, rinse off, scrape with a plastic card etc...

Re: Aircraft Remover
If they actually still offer it and haven't been prevented from selling it, I guess it's worth looking into.

They do. I purchased it a few months ago. Perhaps new old stock?

I'm not trying to guess why they still have it, but it sounds interesting.b.williams wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 2:12 pmThey do. I purchased it a few months ago. Perhaps new old stock?
I've learned to not guess about stuff like that. I appreciate the information.
