Memphis Symphony big band

Post by bloke »

Does your local orchestra have (not only string quartets, brass quintets, woodwind quintets, etc.) but ALSO a BIG BAND ?

I see three people who are NOT regular members of the orchestra in this picture.

bari sax...??
He's the 2nd bassoonist (for approximately 45 years).

1st alto...??
contrabassoonist/third bassoon (for approximately 15 years)

The lady on the right is the per-service 4th trumpet/full-time librarian (probably also at least 15 years - a fine trumpet player)

The best big band in the area is the New London Big Band, which has a ton of guys in it from the US Coast Guard Band.
CG Band also has its own jazz band, I think.

Around here there is considerable overlap between the Hartford Symphony, New Haven Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, Rhode Island Phil and the US Coast Guard Band. @gary knows what I mean. I don't think any of those orchestras have their own big band group affiliated with them.

There are other good-to-fine big bands around here (three...?? four...?? more...??) but the point being that the orchestra has found a creative way to increase it's marketability.

c. 16 pcs. employs more than 4 or 5, but is more affordable than 60.

Ridiculous!

How do they know this venture will be a success without first spending tens of thousands on a feasibility study? :red:

Yes. We know that cities are now (and completely by design of the ruling class, as part of the top down engineered chaos for their so called "great reset") unlivable, and that the only time to go into a city is to play a gig or possibly to buy something that someone has for sale that is very rare or at an incredible price - who is willing to meet in front of a major grocery store chain grocery or a Walmart - and then immediately leave that city, but what I'm saying is that the CSO does not have a Chicago Symphony big band made up of Chicago Symphony Orchestra members. That's all.
