I'm selling my Big Mouth Brass J-865 6/4 CC. It's a York-style tuba based on the Holton 345. I am the second owner of this horn.
Something distinctive to this brand is the 5th valve. All BMB horns have a dependent 5th valve (it only works with the 4th valve pressed) with the paddle linked to the valve using elastics. The dependent valve gives great sound and response in the lower range at the expense of some alternate fingerings not using 4.
The horn plays great and only has a couple small dents on the bow and bell (with a larger one in the bow having been repaired a few years ago). Only reason I'm selling it is I decided to downsize to a smaller horn.
I'm asking $4000. Horn is located in Madison, WI. I'm willing to drive a couple hours for a serious buyer (Milwaukee, Rockford, Dubuque, Racine, maybe Chicago, etc.)
Good luck with the sale . . . I absolutely love mine . . . If I had the cabbage, I’d buy this one for my PA house.
These horns are fantastic in a large orchestra . . .
We've always been pretty good for a community orchestra, but if you told us when I joined 9 years ago that we'd be able to pull off Shostakovich 5 (or Tender Land Suite in 3 rehearsals like our last cycle), you would've been laughed out of the building. We definitely have come a long way.

Terrific community orchestra! Be proud. BTW, the tuba player sounds great.
