1931 Martin Mammoth - $3200 - SOLD
Hello,
For sale is my recently completed 6/4 Martin Mammoth BBb tuba. It has a recording bell and three front-action valves. The horn features a Scotch Brite finish with a polished bell interior and engraving. The valves are what you'd expect from a horn of this vintage. They're not great, but not bad. The slides still pop when pulled. There are still dings and scratches on the body and bell, but, like most horns, looks great from a few feet away.
It comes with a set of Bundy sousaphone bits that work well with the horn. The guard wire on the bottom and two of the three bell screws and flanges were replaced (they are somewhat mismatched, but are all Martin flanges and screws). You can see more of what I've done on this thread.
I've used this for about a year playing jazz charts with a group once a month. The group loves the sound of this thing and it plays super easy with a big sound.
There are no cases or mouthpiece included. Since Greyhound no longer ships, I'd rather not ship this beast. I'm willing to drive 4-5 hours to meet a buyer. I'm in Lincoln, Nebraska, so that puts me within reach of buyers in KC, Denver, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Chicago, etc. Being a teacher, I've got some time in June and end of July to travel to meet someone. We are taking a trip out east, all the way to DC and upstate, NY, but I doubt we'd have room in the car to bring this along.
I'm asking $3200. I'm open to offers.
You can contact me via PM here or jordanhluke (at) yahoo (dot) com
Here is a quick DEMO VIDEO I made.

(that glob on the thumb ring looks like someone brazed it back together, there is a crack on the bottom)

You should cut whoever sold you those Bundy sousaphone bits a deal and give them a $3,100 discount!

Wow! Jordan, you did an absolutely beautiful job on that horn! Someone is going to get a perfect big band or polka horn. Good Luck with the sale!

Yes, despite my earlier snarky comment (because I am the one who sold Jordan those bits), it looks awesome! If Nebraska were closer to Connecticut I'd be knocking on your door.

Come on Blake, don't go making Minnesota sound like it's close to Nebraska!

Maybe one of those metal platforms that fit into the trailer hitch.
Wouldn’t that be a sight!
Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC

I had to file out the space on the receiver a bit so that it would hold them a little more snug, but other than that, nope.

Ha! We've got luggage rails on top of our minivan. I could wrap it in a tarp and strap it to the roof!York-aholic wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 7:28 pmMaybe one of those metal platforms that fit into the trailer hitch.
