If you've one of these in well-preserved condition with no cracks in the shell/cortex (particularly if within a day-trip of west Tennessee) talk to me.
Maybe it's underfoot, you use a bag 100% of the time, and would rather it be converted to some money, and to get the space freed up...(??)
I have a (good-fitting) fiberglass Walt Johnson case for the same instrument, but (perhaps) something lighter-weight would be better for me.

DHL shipping doesn't seem unreasonable, if they will actually ship to the US.

I bought and paid for this one today (that @arpthark showed me on German eBay.
Thanks for the hook-up.
My Walt Johnson case fit my F tuba perfectly, but I really didn't want to lug that much weight, and (heck) I'm not going on anymore European jazz band tours, have lifetime boycotted flying 'ever again' anyway...and - even if touring with a jazz band across the ocean again - wouldn't take an F tuba (were there any more of those tours).

Glad you got it! My old high school had Cervenys with those cases, so I immediately knew what you were after.bloke wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 9:20 pm I bought and paid for this one today (that @arpthark showed me on German eBay.

Yes, (redundant, but) sold by that New Jersey firm, N.E.M.C., which has since changed its business model from discount sales to rentals.arpthark wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 9:31 pmGlad you got it! Schools purchased Czech tubas then because they were cheap, just like they now buy Chinese tubas because they're cheap (but actually most tubas now made are Chinese).
Those are wonderful cases, but - from way back then - they are now just too old, and - just like all of those Czech tubas which children have destroyed, those cases have all been destroyed by those children as well.
I'm pretty sure that new Winter cases of this size cost about 900 buck$$$$$$$$$
The MTS cases (a few hunded dollars lower cost) are pretty good and they're made by good people, but the Winter cases are another quality level up - and a little bit closer to the quality and sturdiness of flight cases (yet they are not "industrial" enough - still plastic, and not fiberglass - to be classified as flight cases). Also, Winter cases are a bit more form-fitting than MTS, and thus smaller in comparison to the size of the instrument.
Apparently, this case in Germany has only suffered some exterior scratches and (BFD) the blue plush lining is a little bit crushed and faded on the inside... fairly obviously: adult-owned.

Re: c. 1990's black molded Jakob Winter case (originally sold with Cerveny 681 rotary)
Cool...
The seller and I devised away for me to pay them the difference between what they quoted on the auction for domestic shipping in Germany - versus shipping to the United States, and I just got a ship notice, so apparently they got the rest of the money.
eBay and PayPal rip everyone off on the currency exchange rate really badly, but - even so - I think I paid a total of about $380 for this really nice European-made molded case with no damage, and that's (again) about 40% of new, and new ($900) would not include the cost of shipping - regardless of from where it would have been shipped to me.
Try to buy one of those fancy schmancy tuba sacks for 400 bucks (that don't protect anything...)

DHL tells me that it was loaded on a plane a couple of hours ago...
I hope it's not packed in next to nuclear waste, nor underneath some 3'x3'x3' concrete block...
...and I hope that - when/if it arrives - it actually fits the tuba.

arrived at USA airport (Atlanta? somewhere else?)
Reportly, us customs is looking at it, prior to ground transport.
I hope it's still in one piece.

I believe I just figured out that the tracking number (given to me by DHL) is a USPS tracking number.
I entered the number into USPS tracking and it was actually updated to approx two hours ago...
Reportedly - as of August 07, 12:14PM EDT - it's at a
Warrendale, PA Distribution Center (Pittsburgh)
It's been about two and a half weeks...so whatever.

Pro tip: paste any tracking number into google and it will usually figure out what service it’s attached too. Gets interesting when it’s overseas handoffs that keep the same number across multiple carriers.

Appreciate that.
I've just never used DHL before, and was so ignorant I didn't know that they handed off to the post office by default.
I would like to do a nice job of cosmetically renewing my f tuba and putting new lacquer on it myself. I'm not interested in doing that until I have a case, rather than a bag.

Re: c. 1990's black molded Jakob Winter case (originally sold with Cerveny 681 rotary)
Bill loves the tuba, but I think he's finding the finish to be slightly impractical.
The most impractical finish of all - in my view - is bright silver, and people seem to really go for it...
Thinking through my current instruments, I don't think I have anything that is silver plated in there. I will be working on a Pan American/14K sousaphone. It has a factory satin silver finish, which I found underneath a thick layer of white paint and a thick layer of school colors blue paint. I'm fine with the factory satin silver on that instrument, but I might sell the instrument if I see a good deal on a King fiberglass with really good valves
I would just like for this F tuba to appear it did when I bought it new, except with more durable lacquer. I guess I'm not afraid of a minor lacquer run or two, but I'm going to try to not get any in it. I'm not going to buff the crap out of it. It's not very scratched up at all, but I'm just not going to try to do anything to it to thin any areas where I've held it or it might have rubbed on something.
I've come up with a technique for smoothing out two layers of metal together. It works best when the nickel cap is thin and closely fitted to the brass bow, as with this instrument. I think this instrument's a good candidate, and it only needs it on a few inches of the upper bow cap.

HA ha, in Buffalo no one wants to mess with the case because they're afraid of taking blame for misplacing the tuba that goes in it! HA

Re: c. 1990's black molded Jakob Winter case (originally sold with Cerveny 681 rotary)
I discovered that it's headed that way and is now in Rochester, New York because the seller put my ZIP code as my street address and my street address as my zip code. I don't know if I'll ever get it. I actually tracked down the name, cell phone number, and email of the Rochester postmaster and sent him a couple of pleading, polite, and apologetic notes asking him to intervene. I've heard nothing back. I also send him a Facebook message as a carbon copy. We'll see...
