1965 H.N. White King 1240 - satin silver, gold-wash bell

Post by arpthark »

Just picked this up today. Really nice tuba! Needs a little bit of dent work and it'll be really spectacular. Heavily used, but not abused, valves/slides/etc. in great shape. This is the pic from the posting but I'll get some more when I can. I need some cases for it.

Taylor Music in South Dakota usually has a pair of those vintage, curved, heavily-braced, lasts-forever cases. The problem is paying the shipping.

I recently sold a King bugle (no valves) to someone and shipped it in the hard case. I am hopeful that they will be very kind and sell the case back to me, but they are busy with school band repairs right now. However, I'd still need something for the bell.

Greedily, I am holding onto mine.

I have an OEM English Besson case for a recording 24" bell, an OEM Besson case (rare as hell) for a recording 22" bell, and as it's sturdier than the Besson cases) I have (as described two posts previously) a vintage King 22" recording-or-upright case.

I may (doubt it but MAY...??) have a later-vintage boxy/crappy King bell case (free, but shipping would cost), but I'm thinking "no"...I'll look now.

What's the vintage of that. Mine is 1936. Would be fun to play them back to back and see how different/alike they are. Otherwise, great horn, love that king sound. Congrats and enjoy.

That's a beautiful horn! Perfect for summer outdoor band concerts and all the polka playing any one person could manage! Great projection and pitch as well as really good "false tones", all the way to the pedal BBb. Have fun with it! :tuba:
