eBay: York small E-flat

Is there a difference between "York Band Instruments" and "J.W. York and Sons"? This is the former. I asked the seller, and the bell is approx. 15".

I already have one York Monster E-flat, tempted to compare 'em, but this might be a good candidate to turn into a Frankentuba.

If it’s tourist season, why can’t we shoot them?

Horns were engraved "York & Sons" from 1898 - c.1930.
They used "York Band Instrument Co." interchangeably from 1923 until the firm was sold in 1940.

The horn you mention is a YBIC Upright Medium Bass Eb model 640 made c.1929.

It also looks to me like the much less seen low pitch model “tall bell” model that is approx. 33” tall versus the more common high pitch model which is 28”.

It’s about 2 hours from me. I’m very tempted but have one that uses a tall bell bell with short bell bows and King moving parts.

Must resist… :wall:

Some old Yorks, Martins, and perhaps a King rotary valved CC
