New Member here Shopping and selling

Post by alexkensington »

Hello
I'm Alex "Lexie" Kensington in Bristol Vermont. We have a town band here, and I am desiring to play tuba again and join in.

I have three cool historic tubas I aim to use as a trade in for a new 4/4 4 rotary valve bb flat horn. New or nearly new.

Oldest;
high pitched B flat tuba 3 rotary valves, in nickle sheet. Very light and in good shape, "Boston Musical Instrument Manufactory" no frozen slides, valves good, needs new cork stops for the rotary valves, 12" bell, 37 Long, medium bore, has a unique 19th century sound plays well and a with a good cleaning, show ready Not issued a serial number so probably around 1868-70 A Real Survivor!

Middling:
Silver E Flat three piston Henry Diston made in Williamsport PA Great Sounding E Flat Tuba in fine shape. Bell recently re-plated no frozen slides, top valves complete and show ready. Lovely engraving and a snappy Beer Garden Sound no significant dents. 14" bell wide bore 33" tall Circa 1896 SN 12118

Newest:
Lyon and Healy BB flat Sousaphone in Nickle plated Brass some stuck slides, but Ive worked them free before, no major dents, needs a polish as its been in clean dry storage for 20 years, Has "Rain Catcher Bell" lined in Silver brilliant engraving "Regimental Line Model A LYON & HEALY Exclusive Distributors Chicago" 3 valves in good shape.
its is NOT of their "Own Line" Series SN 166565 Circa 1903
Biggest Fattest Sounding Sousaphone Ive ever played, not super heavy but no feather either. Fabulous for outdoor show or parade. Like not other sousaphone ever.

Ill send photos to who ever is interested None have cases or gig bags

I and raising money as I plan on a New Wessex BBflat with 4 rotary valves such as their "Dargon" or 'Overture" both sold out until the winter.

Developing an embouchure after quite a few years

Alex Kensington

Still trying to imagine what a "new tuba" is, which you are looking to get, but i'll courteously queue up behind Blake to gawk at the wares.

Been meaning to head north all summer, and just haven't been able to line up such a trip.

PS: I'm a sucker for raincatchers. Still feeling the slight of a tuba xmas conductor who described it as just another type of sousaphone to the audience the one time i tracked one down for it.
