...sound different from silver plate, to lacquer, to raw brass.
Even if it has thick lacquer, silver plate, or a "nice patina". Change my mind.

John Fletcher was speaking to the issue of E-flat "basses" vs. F "chubers" once.

He (with his E-flat BASS) and another player (with his F TUBA) were riding somewhere in the same car with their instruments.

The F tuba person said to JF, "We'll put my TUBA in the back seat, and put your BASS in the boot."
