Weird ask… I need a mute!

Post by Sousaswag »

I’ve got 3 upcoming performances asking for muted tuba. I don’t have a mute. I also don’t want to spend $400-600 on one.

Size- don’t care. I can use my big C or my F. If you’re trying to offload a tuba mute, shoot me a message.

From what I understand the Balu mutes have the ability to fit multiple horns. That seems pretty cool to me.

Watcha got?

Where are you located? If you're near Ohio I'd be happy to lend you one of mine.

In a pinch, it doesn’t seem that unreasonable that one could be made with cork (automotive parts store) corrugated heavy paper (cardboard boxes), construction paper, glue, and black spray paint.

I read somewhere once it’s possible to make a serviceable one out of a KFC chicken bucket. IIRC, you glue wine bottle corks cut to shape in the appropriate places and line the interior of the bucket with 1/2 inch or so of patching cement, for that Humes-Berg “Stone-Lined” sound.

I second the question, but replace northeast (us) for Ohio.

I also enquire after dates of said performances?

Oh, and please relay the success of KFC bucket, if you got that route?.

I heard tell of a BSO musician who asked roofers to fashion one using their roofing material as well?

I’m in Chicago.

Mute tentatively found!
