Belgium: Gronitz 3+3 tuba

Post by arpthark »

Says tuba in ut (C) but I am skeptical based on the overall size of the instrument compared to the door in the pics.

All I know is that it’s cool! And “Avec valise ou sac” is more fun than “With case and bag.” :smilie2:
Depending on what part of Belgium, it could also be "Met koffer en tas"!

The extra loop in the bugle says "not F" to me, but I've never seen one of these not in F.

You're right, I was thinking "tuba in ut" = C tuba, like a French C tuba. Definitely bigger than that. Now that I see that loop 'round back, CC seems likely.

I've contacted the seller. His reply to my questions:

Or translated:

The instrument is indeed in C!
It is a unique model made to measure at the end of the 80s for a French tuba player by the Gronitz brand (Artisanale brand which has its workshop in Hamburg).
There are no other instruments in the same series.
This tuba has “Danish” mechanics
3+3 pallets.
This system is commonly used on F tuba but also exists for C.
1 valve 1t
2nd valve 1/2t
3rd valve 2t
4th valve 2.5T
5th valve 1/2T
6th valve 1t
The particularity of this system allows you to play on fingerings and harmonics, which simplifies certain technical features and allows for better accuracy!

Hmm, seems to have disappeared. The link was from October 2023 and unfortunately I don’t think I saved a pic locally.
