What Should I bring to NYC TubaChristmas?
So I'm grappling with which tuba I want to bring to the 50th anniversary NYC TubaChristmas. I'm sure it's going to be very noisy, cold, and crowded and that, whatever I bring, there's a good chance I'll be coming home with more dents than I came with haha. Thoughts?

I am bringing a somewhat beat up old Besson euphonium in a backpack case because I will be taking a train and be lugging it around all day.
Consider the space, weight and transportation factor. Subcontrabass ain't gonna be fun jamming yourself in a crowd of bodies onto the ice rink...

Bring the worst tuba you have. If it's not dead yet, it will be soon enough.
The NYC event was never a jolly fun musical time. It's crowded, loud (not tuba loud, just city noise loud), and it's none of the banter and crowd participation hoohah that we all are used to. Stand, play, get out. Nobody usually cares what you bring. Definitely nobody cares that you bring to this one
And since it's on the ice rink too, that's a business that doesn't want you there for a second longer than you need to be there. Get in, play, get out. There's money to be made from ice skating tourists!
It's kind of fun to do it once. Thinking back, I would definitely not enjoy doing it ever again

I know what you should bring, but you would probably be arrested, even though it's illegal for them to make it illegal.

If only you knew a good repair guy that could fix those dents. Let me recommend a brass repair tech in your area named Tyler Ferristylerferris1213 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 2:38 pmwhatever I bring, there's a good chance I'll be coming home with more dents than I came with haha. Thoughts?
