I have a friend who is looking at one of these in a thrift store. 3 upright valves and 1 valve is missing - Is this horn good for anything? Would it be a good jazz horn? home practice horn for high schoolers? He was going to offer $100 and the valve is probably $100.
Any reason to fool with this?

Re: Y201 Yamaha tuba
I have a spare #3 valve for one of these for sale for $20 if he decides to go through with it and that ends up being the missing valve.

I'd buy it without blinking - particularly if it's all repairable.
(I would tend to suspect that it belonged(s) to a school, and someone took it along as a "parting gift".)

Re: Y201 3 valve Yamaha tuba
I figure it is just surplused out since it is missing a valve and has some pretty good road rash. We do have good shops and repairmen in this area. Maybe some director decided it was better just to put the money toward a convertible rig.
It is not certain the thrift shop will take $100.
