I hate doing thus, but.....
What mouthpiece do you use on your 6/4 CCs? Just curious. I just bought a new horn, and am not completely satisfied with my Mirafone TU33. Thanks!

I'm sure it's unintentional, but this is freak jury bait.

Re: I hate doing thus, but.....
I have always liked Geib-style mouthpieces on the largest tubas. Particularly when they are adapted to have a larger backbore.
Stofer Geib or James R New are the best IMO.
The Stofer Air Corps has the larger throat, and James R New can be custom ordered with a larger throat as well.
I'm no professional, but they work for me to have big sound and maintain clarity. And a nice, thin, sharp rim as well.
(FWIW, the Bloke symphony is a great option too and similar in Geib characteristics as well. I just can't "do" stainless and prefer brass.)

I've owned several 6/4 CC tubas (MW 6450/2, Eastman 836, Gronitz PCK) and my favorite mouthpieces for these kinds of instruments have been the Dennis Wick AT3U and the Giddings Baer MMVI. The Dillon Olka C3L and the Dillon Roylance TDC mouthpiece are quite nice too.

I don't own one, but I'd use either a Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand w/ symphony shank or the Giddings Baer model with the Roman numerals.

Re: I hate doing thus, but.....
This Blokepiece config is what I used when I had my BMB. I got great results with it.
(This reminds me that I need to update my sig with my new setup)

Re: I hate doing thus, but.....
For my Holton I use a Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand cup with a Grand shank.
I use the same cup with a Symphony shank for my Hirsbrunner 193.

Re: I hate doing thus, but.....
It depends on your horn, how you're built, and the leadpipe taper. I prefer using a larger throated mouthpiece on my PCK (AT2Y), as I find that it nicely counterbalances the natural zip of the Gronitz by adding more core to the sound. Try whatever you can get your hands on and see what's comfortable and sounds good.
