I got excited when I saw Reading, PA. I wanted to check it out, but it's 45 minutes away.

There's nothing like those old 3 valve Eb tubas with a big dent in the leadpipe, and no one made them like Couesnon.

I'm a bit of a Couesnon apologist -- they are what they are, but they aren't as bad as all-get out. I owned one briefly before flipping it to a middle school (and despite my packing, it still managed to come unsoldered in transit!), and I was able to get a somewhat decent sound on it.
There are tubas that my wife says sound like this:
"teeeewt"
That Couesnon, somehow, was NOT a "teeeewt"er.

We need to work with this. Tubas that sound like teeeewt, players, etc.
My comment was in a somewhat ironic vein, but I don't mean to be critical of Couesnon, they've made some fine instruments. I have a saxhorn that I think would be excellent if I could play it. What I think I would steer clear of, just by reputation, is the Lafayette models, which may have included an Eb but this doesn't look like it. Maybe this would be a good beater to learn brass instrument repair, and if you could get that leadpipe fixed (am I right, there's a big dent?) it would be a fun if useless player.

My onomatopoeia is somewhat understaffed at the moment...
teeeewt would be the equivalent of a nasal voice from a tuba?
Thinking of Peter Lorre at the moment...

A thin, pinched sound that is also sometimes caused by leaks in the instrument.
