New Fanfare for Solo Tuba

Post by Chris Olka »

Hey folks, hope all is well. I recorded a solo fanfare for Tuba that was commissioned by the Cincinnati Symphony as part of their "Fanfare Project". Their goal was to commission a Solo Fanfare for each of the Principal Players in the orchestra during the Covid-19 lockdown. I recorded it a few months ago and the orchestra finally got around to putting it in the playlist rotation for their website.

The composer is Laura Karpman, an LA based composer who has won four Emmys and a Grammy for her works. She was great to work with and I hope she'll continue to write for us! The piece is short and sweet and pretty approachable, with no extended techniques or special "effects". Just straight up, nice music. I hope you enjoy it and please feel free to share it:

Thank you for sharing that. It's really nice that the orchestra or composer made the score available, too. Cool.

I looked at that score and listened to Chris play the piece. I was astonished with Chris' accuracy throughout, especially the fearsome interval leaps. In my judgment, Olka is one of the very best tuba players in the world.
