Wessex Eb horns
and let's not forget my Shires. This one is the .547" bore with 8.5" bell, but I also have the parts for a .525" bore (small and large shank!), straight goose neck and an 8" bell. Good stuff; the modular horns.
Sorry for the photo shoots but I thought I'd post my most used horns.
Honorable mentions go out to my Alex 163, Amati helicon, Wessex cimbasso, Olds flugelbone (.509" bore) and a Cerveny oval baritone.
These horns get played yearly, just not that often as the others I showed.

Yes it is. A real player. 1st generation. Many people don’t like these older Mira linkages by I’ve never had any problems. Quick and silent

Re: My Tuba & I, Post Yours & You
I’m very happy with the horn. I used to own a 967 Besson from the out-of-tune years. Know I know there are many Besson enthousiasts that would have a main tuning stick installed, but I need a press and play euph. I play it regularly but very briefly and I’m not interested dealing with intonation games.
Years ago I had a Conn double bell. I used the switch function a lot (eh, when I used it) but again: intonation issues (low tuning etc).
So when I finally decided to replace the Besson I got euphoric about the old Conn and decided to go for the double bell from Wessex.
It’s a good business and I have been happy with their service. My cimbasso is also a Wessex (and also an instrument I don’t use that often).
I do appreciate that Wessex goes out on a limb to produce odd-balls: Not just double-belled euph’s but travel tubas, a British style compensating F tuba, helicons (with removable bells) in F, Eb, BBb and CC!

Has Wessex started making helicons in F?

As of now, no. Couldn't find it on their site anywhere. I wish they did - I'd so want one. Eb isn't my thing,

I'm not opposed to Eb - I wouldn't be reading notation. And I wouldn't mind Eb when we play in G, A, D, and E, BUT a helicon in some other key like F might lie a little easier under less-dextrous fingers (less work, more fun).

I don't think Eb is useless, I just am able to work with F much easier. An Eb tuba may be something I eventually buy, though.

Re: My Tuba & I, Post Yours & You
I've been wanting an Eb for years, but I haven't wanted to commit to reading with it just yet. If I had an Eb helicon or an Eb like @bloke's that I could use on polka and jazz gigs, that would be an easy way to play Eb and still get paid.

Re: Wessex Eb horns
Most of ya'll know that I found my niche with my Eb NStar....but admit it was not as good below low C as my CC was. But otherwise just way easier to play. That tuba needed more air below C than the CC did.

I think I may get a Wessex Danube for my first bass tuba - with the correct alterations it'll be THE Eb tuba for me!

I have a Wessex Danube that I'm not playing much and would be willing to sell. ebbriand@gmail.com

Might as well post a pic, description, price, and location under the For Sale category. You never know who might come sniffing around.EbBriand wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 5:12 pm I have a Wessex Danube that I'm not playing much and would be willing to sell. ebbriand@gmail.com
