It has obviously been painted gold. Im not sure what manufacturer it is. The closest match I could find to it was an Eb pepper helicon.

Could be Pepper. Especially if it is an import. Reads as any number of European makes of the time to me. Really interesting Ferrules though!EmptyCase wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 10:59 am It has obviously been painted gold. Im not sure what manufacturer it is. That's probably your best bet: to go picture surfing to see who uses ferrules like that. I do think it's a full circle Eb, but am not entirely sure.
I'll pull out a tape measure at some point, and see if the measurements are consistent wih it being an Eb...
Thanks for pointing it out!

Because i'm bored, and like passing the time staring at pictures of helicons, here is my best guess so far:
(courtesy of horn-u-copia.net)
(ebay pic for comparison)
And in my humble opinion, the maker name alone is worth getting. Imagine how much fun you can get telling folk ya play a Farny!

I compared it to this picture from Strictly Oompah

The ebay picture
Its also impossible to tell what the actual finish is due to the paint. It's possible this could be silver or nickel-plated...

Re: Old Pepper Eb Helicon from 1880s?
Horn-u-copia says of Farny "Lists Paris as its location, probably a tradename" so it is reasonably likely that both Pepper and Farny got them from the same source?
And my impression is Pepper distinguished between those they imported and those they made, so it would say so on the bell. And who knows, perhaps Farny imported Pepper to France...
The slides in the Strictly Oompah picture are set similarly to the ebay one, if that is an optimistic indication they both have been well played.
If anyone here gets it, my curiosity is roused, so i wouldn't mind hearin' further.
