Tuba openings at Miami University

Post by Chris Olka »

Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know that I’m now the tuba/euphonium instructor at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio.

The school is located in beautiful, Oxford, Ohio and is 30 minutes drive from downtown Cincinnati. I’ll have an undetermined number of openings for tuba for the coming year (2021-2022) and there is a fairly good amount of scholarship money available. I’m looking to build the studio into a high-level destination for tubists looking to pursue both performance and education degrees. The current studio is really solid (thanks to Carson McTeer) and I’m investing in the school to make it one of the best in the region. The rest of the brass faculty include members (past and present) of the Cincinnati Symphony, and their respective studios are quite good.

If you are looking for a place to study tuba, I humbly submit this for your serious consideration. Any interested players should contact me at:
olkac@miamioh.edu

It’s not too late to submit an application. Thanks and very best regards,

I’m a MM graduate of this institution (2011). Though I’ve never met Chris, I can say the rest of the faculty there that were employed when I was there are outstanding. In fact, one of the ethnomusicology professors is a classically trained tubist with a MM from Juilliard.

I really don’t know how fast Chris drives, because it would take me 30 minutes alone to get to Fairfield or Hamilton, but you are well positioned between Cincy/Dayton for lots of musical opportunities. It is also a very scenic drive
