This is similar to a helicon that Lee had through his shop a while back - a brace was designed to fit into a post, allowing for the bell to be removable. I had a similar thought to use lyre mounts and square rod to secure it a little better.

Without pulling it apart, the inner diameter at the first ferrule above the bell is a little over 3 inches in diameter.
