It's official, I'm the new owner of the Kalison. I picked it up this evening from the owner and it was a delightful experience. He and his wife were gracious hosts and we got to sit down and talk for a few minutes before I played the horn, and then we had to get back on the road. Five valves and a main slide kicker should make this a real winner. Initial impressions are good and I'll know much more once I get back home and can tend to a few things on it; cleaning up first slide action, pull/clean/lube rotor. It's had some magnetic dent work that was done pretty well and shows some minor orange peel in the bow but it's nothing I'm going to complain about.

More to follow in a while.

I'd never left that Wagon, the food and drink was always good enough not to want to leave it. Almost did..but my better judgement said No. I'd love to hear a sound clip of this horn. Congrats!

I've had feet in all four camps (BBb, CC, Eb, and F) for a long while now but this was too good for me to pass up. Once I recover from the drive back (did 915 miles in one day) I'll get a few clips up. I'm excited to try it in brass band in a couple weeks.

Bloke's comment about coming back was appropriate in the sense of thinking about the big orchestral works (Mahler in particular) being played on BBb instead of CC. I listened to the HR Symphony (Frankfurt) with David Glidden playing his Rudi Bayreuth model on symphonies 1, 5, and 6. Marvelous sound! I know that's how the German orchestras do it but I had to re-listen to those recordings with a different perspective. I'm glad we have access to so many great recordings to feed our interests.
