December 11th, First Lutheran Church on Superior St. Parking should be okay. The venue can 75 players comfortably, 125 uncomfortably, give or take. It should be a good time. I’m planning on making a day trip of it.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
The Hotel we stayed at in Duluth was just a Best Western or what have you, but it had views of the bay/canal. As I recall, we could walk to them. Cool place.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
I've NEVER laid eyes on Lake Superior.
There's a once-every-three-years (July) family reunion between Manitowoc and Sheboygan (Wisconsin) on (well: four blocks from) Lake Michigan.
I try to reach out to Jeremiah (Eis) when we're up there...Last time, I heard him play (in his amazing German band), but could not stay and visit.
Brett...Your mention of the Duluth TubaChristmas has got me all jazzed about (next summer) a side-trip up to Marquette, (Michigan) to lay eyes on Lake Superior.
Have a great TubaChristmas !!!

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
I've gone here the last two summers: https://www.nps.gov/piro/index.htm
Not far from Marquette, and very pretty. Lots of touristy stuff (boat rides) and plenty of big/small hikes you can do.
That's as much of Lake Superior as I've seen. Lake Michigan has a lot of really nice spots too. Charlevoix, Michigan has the clearest water I've ever seen outside of the Caribbean.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
Lake Michigan (in the same part of Wisconsin to which I referred previously)
BAD - Milk production is now almost all "factory" - with cows being fed "feed", never seeing the light of day, and all of the milk tasting like bland/watery "Kroger milk".
GOOD - The excess cow manure (as - previous to the factory model - there was just too much of it to work back into the pastures' soil) is no longer being dumped into Lake Michigan.
There hasn't been a TubaChristmas - in the Memphis area - in several years.
The mall (in which they formerly had done it) occasionally features gun-play, so (back when it was done - and I had no gig/rehearsal conflict) it gave me the heebie-jeebies to go play them...but I did anyway.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
Lake superior is something for sure,
Stays so cold even in the hottest summers its pretty unbearable. I think the water temp only varies something like 5 degrees through the year. I love lake Michigan. Still cold but you can swim. The western side of Michigan is very nice. Charlevoix/Traverse city is beautiful.

WOW, it was 2007 when we went to Duluth, forgot about the excursion train and harbor cruise in addition to the sights and museum…

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
I haven't read every single post in this thread, but 2 points:
1. Brett, Ron, et al - anyone interested in a less formal tuba performance? No books needed, just stand outside a mall or other venue and play carols? Brett has mentioned this in the past. I believe I could get a euph or two involved.
2. Tuba Christmas in Brainerd is Wednesday December 8th. Run-thru at 5:30, perform at 6:30.

I would be interested in this. Maybe we could lay a tuba case out and do a little busking…ok, maybe not.MN_TimTuba wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 10:45 pm I haven't read every single post in this thread, but 2 points:

Busking could be cool, as long as the city or property allows it..and as long as there are no "mostly peaceful" protests going on.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
I moved back to Indiana this summer and was looking forward to the Valparaiso University TC, Jeff and Rich are awesome guys. I have a wedding that weekend; I don't even really like the guy that much...
Anyone know of any other NWI Tuba Christmases? I got my bobhorn cleaned and fixed this summer; I need to find someone I can torment with it! Zero interest in the Chicago one if it runs; I'm not going back to Chicago for anything besides family.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
I just saw the update and plan for this Tuba event on Facebook. Without discussing the virus, the main points is the audience must wear masks and players show proof of vaccination. FYI if you're planning on going and have reserves about it.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
There's about a 10% chance I'll go to this tomorrow. Rona is hot up here right now, so that certainly makes me less interested. Plus, I just don't like how this particular event is run.
Maybe next year things will cool off enough that I can explore a separate event for Minneapolis.

Re: Minneapolis Tuba Christmas
I played this today; there were about 45 of us, including a large contingent of sousaphones from the U of MN Marching Band. Nobody checked my COVID status and I saw lots of unmasked faces in the crowd.KingTuba1241X wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 10:23 pm I just saw the update and plan for this Tuba event on Facebook.
