It has been fascinating the difference in articulation markings required for strings and brass players. String players tend to slur everything and brass players tend to separate everything. Separate notes with lines over them are played completely differently by string players and brass players; the strings will have the barest of separations between the notes, and the brass players will leave enough space that you can drive a truck through it.

And then there’s the viola players. Where the latest CDC guidance calls for the double masking of ALL of them. This will muffle the noise, and dampen the attempts to ask for note checks during a rehearsal.

I really don't understand the jokes about viola players. I play viola and find it a beautiful instrument, the Cor Anglais of the string family. It is more mellow than the violin and easier on the ears.

Now, if you were talking about SAXOPHONE players, I might get it.

I really don’t get tuba players making jokes about any other types of instrumentalists, period.

Even bluegrass banjo solos – which are all in the same key and repetitive – are more interesting than tuba solos, and their players understand stage presence and showmanship…

… oh yeah: and they are nearly always in tune.

But i do take your point. Humor at the expense of others usually costs more than it is worth (humor economics 103? pretty sure it is front action anyway). On the other hand self-deprecation is a universal tool in the humorists bag.
