You were, at one time, a Buescher artiste.
Yes or no?
I plead for a 5th.

If anyone’s actually curious about this – which no one should be in the least - i’m pretty sure I’m going to use the Holton B-flat, though I have the better part of two weeks to change my mind.
- The 23 valve combination is remarkably consistent, so D-flat should tune itself - unless I go completely deaf.
- This tuba is not squirrelly when it’s cold. I can push the main slide in about 3/8 of an inch, and am offered good A=440 tuning when cold (and tug on the #3 circuit - a little bit - to compensate)… In other words, the tuning drops consistently/arithmetically when it is cold, rather than inconsistently.
- The fifth partial second valve D-flat is also very reliable and en pointe.
- It’s short of stature, currently brown (thus not reflecting stage lights in patrons’ eyes), and - thus - shouldn’t visually distract from the star of the show - in that movement, which (of course) is the English horn.

I voted Thor CC because I don't know the BBb. However, I know you play with great bass trombonists, so I would say use a contrabass tuba to play the 14 notes (unless they expect you to play the other 2 movements)

Upper D-flat is pretty good with most C length instruments, but - with only five valves - the lower D-flat choices are usually a lip-it-up fingering vs. an awkward-slide-pull fingering.
A few of them feature 2nd slide triggers, but a 2+4 set-up (and a right thumb #1 slide trigger) would be nicer…and would also offer a spot-on on-the-fly double-low D (5-6-3-4) - rather than the best combination lacking about 6 inches of tubing (another awkward pull)…
…but I digress.

OK…
Using this B-flat tuba - on those two bookend trombone chorales - was the easiest damn play-through I’ve ever had with this movement of this symphony… and how many times have I played this thing…?? (many)
Hell, we were even complimented by The Man…and it was only the friggin’ first read-through.
SCREW “C tuba for kolij”.

I can't promise that we'll do the Dvorak 9 "bookend" 2nd mvt chorales during the broadcast (maybe...??), but TOMORROW/Friday (AFTER 11:30 CENTRAL TIME - probably several minutes LATER) this station will cut in to (yes, of course "LIVE STREAM") an hour of our second rehearsal...
Actually (knowing the rehearsal schedule), there IS a reasonable chance that we'll go through the Dvorak 2nd movement during the broadcast.

The E.H. player is playing the solo like an angel...amazing...(and I'm accustomed to hearing VERY FINE oboe/E.H. players, fwiw).
It's just an awesome orchestra.
IRIS ORCHESTRA TROMBONE SECTION
>
Jaime Morales - 1st tbn
(trombone prof. at Miami Univ of Ohio)
>
Michael Hosford - 2nd tbn
(co-principal - Greenville Symphony)
>
Christopher Davis - bass tbn
(New World Symphony alum)
I believe this is what I noticed (from 2 - 8 feet away)
- pretty much, a stock Courtois 88H copy
- a Bach 42 with Hag-lookin' rotor
- a Bach 50 with Greenhoe stuff
=====================
...
very easy to play the Dvorak chords in tune, with these gents...

Right after this break… I guess it’s gonna be barely after noon CST.
The bookend chorales are seeming more and more likely for the broadcast…
…or not
(connectivity issues)

I couldn't get on in time.
But I did hear a nice recording of Le Corsaire.

The city’s Internet protocols changed, and the feed couldn’t be sent to the radio station.

14 notes or not, pay matters. Unless one of the groups wouldn't call you again because of turning them down, it should (and did) guide your decision. Besides, those are 14 really good notes to play. This is one of the excerpts I always bring in my head to an elephant room - if I feel like the Db is resonating and speaks cleanly then I'll move on to other "things". If it fails that test it goes back to whatever booth from which it started.

Again, it’s really nice on a B-flat tuba.
I’m just not going to bring my E-flat tuba to an orchestra gig, and point my bell back towards the shell.
F-tuba D-flats tend to be somewhat nebulous (6-1-2…?? 2-3…??), and don’t crank to fortissimo particularly nicely.
C-tuba D-flats are either sharp (1-4) or flat (5-2-3).

Too late to be of any use...
I vote for ol' stubby any time, if for no other reason than the name. Ya might consider better marketing for the other options... (or were we supposed to vote based solely* on musical merit?)
* - solely has too many l's for my taste...
