I bought a new Cerveny CC 601-5MR in or around 1995. Charlie Krauss arranged to have it drop shipped from the factory. I have never encountered such beautiful and protective packing. The box was big enough to hold a small refrigerator. The metal seemed a bit thinner than my other tubas, but the tone quality was huge, rich, and resounding. Workmanship outstanding. Whisper quiet rotary action, best I have ever had. Intonation good except a stuffy and sharp A below the staff. I took it to rehearsal that same night and played the Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet Suite. People in the orchestra liked the sound of the tuba. I eventually sold the horn to a young man in El Paso, Texas who was desirous of becoming a bandmaster.
