A carefully-chosen '55 (with a smaller aftermarket mouthpipe tube) is the best of any of those...

I'm not a Face member, so I can't see it. What's the price for the 3450?

Just saw this, but I’ve been thinking of selling my 2145 with a Red Cronkhite gig bag. I can send pictures in a little while if you want
Seems This should work for you Brett, have you had the pleasure of a red Cronkhite bag yet? :-)
As an aside, there are a couple of (186-size) Rudi Meinl rotary BBflats available out of Germany right now. Have your confidant chase them down on the facebook for sale pages

Thanks -- I've been in contact.
I'm considering a few things, one of which is a Rudy Meinl 3/4 CC, the CC version of what you've described above. I like them a lot!

Bort,
I’d guess the 3450’s on FB aren’t what you’re looking for in terms of price.
Most I’ve seen are around $10,000. (FWIW, that’s WAY high for a tuba like that, IMO.)
I’ll keep my eyes out for those 2145 or 2155 horns on FB.

I know that this is a pretty old thread but I've got an MW2145 that I would part with. It's been a long time since I've had any time to play.

It’s fun to see this and think of all the tuba shift’s that Brett’s had since then, including the F-for-everything adventure (in which I ended up with the F) and the switch to all Eb tubas.

Well, it's been fun, but most of those changes were financially motivated over the last 5 or so years. If money hadn't been a factor, I would have kept that PT-6 forever and ever. Everything else just went crazytown after that and selling things to chase my F-for-everything lasted a month or two before I had to sell it, and the only time that tuba left the house was when it was boxed up and on its way to Texas.
The switch to all Eb tubas was unintentional -- it was literally THE tuba that I could afford at the time, and since then has been the only tuba I could justify keeping. It's been one of the longer-owned tubas that I've had. Well, I guess technically not, *I* don't own it anymore. But that's another story altogether.
I did use the Eb in orchestra for a few months before my Rudy was ready (and I had to sell that within a month or two as well). But after I was informed that I had to quit the orchestra, I haven't used it for anything serious since then. Nor have I done any serious playing since then.
Meh.

Well, start a tuba-euph quartet and have it meet at your house. That helps with the "you're spending too much time away from home in the evenings."
