Widening/lengthening those bows - which double over - not only lowers the position of the fifth slide (right down next to the number one slide bow), but also offers an easier way to grab that slide with other fingers of the left hand which are already placed on the number one slide.. so I'm darn close to a workable on-the-fly smooth solution for playing a tuned double low C without resorting to a false tone.
You’ll be able to pull both slides (1&5) at the same time?
I've tried it a few times. It probably is going to require some practice if I need to do it but it seems possible.
Thankfully, double low C is rare, but - when it's encountered - I would like to be able to play it in tune and without using a false tone valve combination.

...so this is the o.e.m. config (prior to my re-config) of the #5 slide

- three very narrow slide bows
- one slide (loop-over did not slide)
- sat in this very high/pulled-out position for default tuning (very low E, E-flat, D-flat, B-natural)
>> not enough slide tubing remaining to pull out for very low C
>> impossible to quickly grasp - after releasing the #1 slide, anyway

The pull was so much, that I tend to wonder what they were thinking.

Push it in all the way, tape the 5th valve down, pull out all the other slides and you've got an Ab tuba?

For those low excerpts, ya know.

now:
Push it in all the way (BOTH of it's slides), mash down 1 & 5, and I can rattle the walls with an in-tune (rather than "tending-to-ride-high") low F-sharp...

...but I'm going to reconfigure #3, so that I can pull it out about 5/8" further (currently: remarkably short slide tubes) and do the same thing.
