Aha you are reminding me of a loan I did NOT do. The local (since deceased) horn professor had bought a Lawson bell after playing my horn, and somehow, at some point in time, he apparently sat on, or dropped, or whatever, his bell, and he had a performance coming up. He called me, invited me to his retirement party that I had NOT been invited to originally, and then wanted to borrow my bell, saying he would take exquisite care of it. I figured, if he can ruin his bell, he can also ruin my bell, and didn't appreciate the kissing-up in order to borrow it. I said no, that it was not something I felt ok about lending out.
