I'm sorry you've misunderstood. That's not what I wrote.

So what did I misunderstand?
" when playing, try to stay in the fullest 70% of your lung capacity, as that's the range where the elastic nature of your lungs wants to help you empty the lungs. "
To me that says try to keep your lungs close to 3/4 full so that you can do your playing in that physical situation. What did you mean?

Context is important, Mary Ann. Including the portion you left out.Mary Ann wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 2:55 pmSo what did I misunderstand?

.Below that range (and below the "tidal range", where we shallowly breathe while relaxed), we have to exert effort in order to exhale; fine to occasionally finish a long phrase, but not an easy area in which to make music
This is in no way an instruction to ONLY stay in the 70% as you aver.

Thanks for filling me in. I hope you didn't think I was making fun of you because what I was laughing about was my own trying to play above the 70% level over a lot of the instrument, because with my "perfect for an oboe player" lung capacity I'd be using at most a cup and a half of air.
Sorry if I offended; there was no intent.
