Re: my 5 valve 2280 rebirth project
I do have a couple projects in mind. One involves a major upgrade for the car in my Profile pic, and the other one is tuba related. More details later

I need a better euphonium. I have always liked these as they function more like a tuba player would want them to work. Adding the 5th was a great idea that I may need to poach from you.

Ebay can pop some real bargains for the king, just pick up a used one and play it as a 4 valve for a while before you feel like you have to make it more than that. They are surprisingly good horns that Nobody seems to know about

Re: my 5 valve 2280 rebirth project
I use the 2280 mouthpiece receiver for small tubas that need a small shank (bass trombone shank) receiver, because their styling is so similar to B&S/M-W, and they accept a mouthpipe tuba that seems to line up nicely with the typical exit bore of a small tuba (bass trombone) shank mouthpiece.
Oh yeah...Those receivers aren't expensive.

Re: my 5 valve 2280 rebirth project
I have my old horn over here, with a good valve set and leadpipe. The main thing that's missing is the slide crooks like I used to make my eBay purchase complete.
I wonder if there is market for me to get rid of it?

Re: my 5 valve 2280 rebirth project
I had a 2280 and really liked the tone and the flexibility of the 4th valve circuit. I didn't like the valves on top. It twisted my shoulder too much. I got a 24i instead, much prefer those valves in front, also prefer the tuning mechanism over a compensating system. I wound up with too many valves for a slide guy, so I sold the 2280, and I do miss it.

Why don't you just put some slide bows on it and offer it for sale? There's nothing wrong with doing that to recover money you've spent on the thing that replaced it.

Re: my 5 valve 2280 rebirth project
it needs a LOT at this point. I used all of the 4th valve circuit, because those extra long inner outer slides on the silver one were STUCK beyond fixing
I used every crook end there was on the old horn, plus the main tuning slide, I also use the longer leg of the 2nd valve outer slide. Oh yeah, I also removed some braces.
if another sub $150 junk horn came up on ebay I might consider it, because the valve section on my old one is still very nice.
