... a VERY good Mirafone C4 for years (this one was bought new in the 80s by a flagship university tuba professor in the south)...
This is a little worrying. I naively treat mouthpieces with the same name from the same maker to be essentially the same, and maybe that wrong. :(
I guess the TU-23 isn't really a C4, either.
Do you know what Bobo used on his Symphonie F?

Some years back I was talking to a professional trombone player - not an ace but someone who made a modest living from playing - and he told me of visiting music shops and trying each mouthpiece of the same make and size to see which was best. His view was that there was a lot of dimensional variability in what was sold to the customer. Some manufacturers are or were like that, get something out of the factory gate and let the marketing sell whatever it happens to be.

There are a couple potential issues, illustrated by different popular mouthpieces.
Bach 18: examination of a pile of Bach 18s reportedly turned up substantial dimensional differences, and the conventional wisdom is, it's because the milling cutters wear down.
Conn 120 Helleberg: rims are supposed vary somewhat over the decades, from flat to somewhat rounded - likely not because of any manufacturing issue, they just changed their concept a little.

I'm pretty happy with the bloke solo with the new york Eb, but I'd like to find something else with a thicker rim and yet a narrow diameter.
Thinking of a bobo solo, if I can find one for a reasonable price
Dave Houser makes the C4LA rim in a 32.0mm size. I don’t know if that’s as small a diameter as you are looking for, but it is rounder and thicker and would work with the Solo cup you already have.
