I hope it gets where it's going soon. PABT is a lousy love to spend a few hours as a human. Let alone several days. Talk about stations that smell like pee ... :smilie6:

I suppose it might have just wanted to go out for a drive and to see the sea.

That's what I would have done. :smilie5:

It's sort of sad when your tuba has a more interesting social life than you do. HAHAHA!!!

I take it as a comfort that folk appreciate a tuba and am more than willing to bask in its glow.

Anyway, godspeed, tuba and Apple Airtag!

Too true. Sad when you get jealous of your tuba's sight seeing trip.

It's headed down to Philly now... I believe there is a bus that goes from Philly straight to its destination, but I'm not holding my breath.

At least now we know why they often take an extended time. They are touring the United States!

"Kathy", I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now"
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America

"Kathy, I'm lost", I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for America
All come to look for America

It has arrived safe and sound. The 1906 York Model 33 (flipped to front action with King small parts) is in its new owners hands now.

:tuba:

Now to worry about the return trip of the other side of the trade...

All this reinforces the question....Do you want your $X,000 tuba going sight-seeing even though it "made" it to it's destination? All those extra unnecessary miles, puts it at more risk if the bus gets into an accident or unnecessary stops and gets unload somewhere it shouldn't be off the route it's supposed to have travelled, like what if York's horn got off-loaded in Maine and sat for 2 weeks because the label came off? Your choice. Jason, this was a great experiment, we all owe you a debt of gratitude for doing the air tag. (I wouldn't be comfortable with this extra mileage maybe you would).

These are all good points and must be weighed be each individual.

It was in an King branded MTS 1207 case (made for a new style 2341), then in a Home Depot 'tall' wardrobe box (so as not to advertise "tuba/musical instrument"). Not a small package and it weighed 61 lbs. I don't even want to think about what it would have cost to send it FedEx or UPS, nor consider what would have happened when either of those companies began their Package Throwing Olympics.

It was clearly out of driving range (at least for me).

Life is full of compromises. For me, it was worth it. The new owner seems quite happy with it ("remarkable resonance", "Low-low notes rather easy to hit"), it had sat in its case since at least a year before COVID hit the scenes, and there is a very interesting partial instrument (the missing parts of which I happen to have here), 2 gig bags and a mute coming back in its place.

Shipping it this way was a compromise of time/price/risk that I could live with. Each person will have to make their own decision based on their own set of circumstances.

For horns over $5000 I personally would drive it and meet a buyer/seller half way.
At the end of the day, this is the only viable option where it's a win/win for both parties. Still think the air tag is the best thing since sliced bread though, and still wouldn't trust an expensive horn with what I've seen with GH the past couple times I was forced to use them. :eyes:
