SOLD Wessex Viverna BBb Silver

Post by Tommckamey »

Price reduced NOW $3,500.00

Nearly perfect condition 5 valve BBb contrabass tuba hand-made from sheet brass. If you can find the little ding on the back of the bottom bow (3rd photo) that’s the biggest blemish on this horn. Wessex lists it as a 4/4, but it’s every bit of 5/4 in my assessment. Intonation is great, SS valves fly, plays even and open with a big dark tone. Silver plating is 100%. It’s a great horn.

I’ve added an F tuba to my collection, and I’m more fond of my compensating BBb, so this one’s for sale. Comes with a wheeled hard case. I’m in the Chicago are, and willing to drive a couple of hours for a meet-up if necessary, or can ship via. Greyhound to nearly any where in con usa pretty reasonably. Asking $3,500.00. A new one will cost you $5,700.00 and you have to wait. This ones a like new Silver horn priced below the laquered Brass version.

Here's the deal guys, I'm moving to Mexico and have too many tubas to take them all. I've tried selling on Facebook Marketplace, but am getting gun-shy of all the scammers. Had a couple just today sending fake emails about payments appearing to come from Paypal, so I'm done with that, and want to focus my attention on this group. I've had equitable (I hope) dealings with Daniel Bethel, Dan Schultz, Allex Tschetter, and Daniel Ridder from this group, and trust they would be willing to vouch for me if anyone needs references.

That said, this horn represents a great value to someone wanting a large BBb. It is very much as described above, big, shiny, easy blowing, all the stuff you'd expect from horns 3 or 4 times the price. It's not perfect, however. The MTS is a bit tight for me, but is OK. You have to be careful and deliberate about re-screwing the valve caps etc. so you won't mistake it for a $15,000.00 tuba in that regard. But the valves are smooth, and tight, and the intonation, tone quality is great. The weight and ergonomics are pretty comfortable for a big tuba, and all of the valve slides pull easily and smoothly and are accessible while playing. I really shouldn't hold on to this horn, but don't see myself going lower.
