For sale is my rotor valve fafner. This is a handmade version with a gold brass bell and the bell kranz. This horn is one of a kind in that it has an independent fifth valve added by Matt Walters at Dillon Music. The valve was built using all Meinl Weston parts and expertly crafted. If the lacquer matched the rest of the instrument, you would never be able to tell it wasn’t a factory fifth. All five valves are vented as well.
This horn is an absolute gem. I’ve owned several
large BBb tubas over the years and this one is hands down the best. The pitch is VERY good. The response is very similar to a CC tuba making it, in my mind, much easier to play. The sound is really something special. There’s just nothing like the sound of a big German BBb, but this horn goes above and beyond. Adding a fifth valve solves a lot of issues with pitch especially in the lower register
There are a few minor dings on the instrument, but top to bottom it is in extremely good condition. I have tried to picture the most prominent ones here.
I hate to let this horn go, but at this stage it’s just
sitting in my basement gathering dust. I need to
free up the cash to go a slightly different direction with my equipment. The horn comes with a Meinl Weston flight case that has been modified slightly to accommodate the added fifth valve and a protec gig bag. The horn is located in the southern suburbs of Chicago. I won’t ship, but would be happy to drive a few hours to meet an interested buyer. I could also bring the horn to the Midwest clinic in a couple of weeks for a trial.
Price is $14,000
I will occasionally check pms, but email is preferred. Andy dot Lutz dot Smith at Gmail dot com
