Yamaha YCB-621S - $5,000 - SOLD

Post by Tubajug »

For sale is a YCB-621 in bright silver plate.

This tuba belonged to a friend’s father, who recently passed away. My friend is not a tuba player, so he has enlisted my help. I helped him sell his father's YCB-822 recently, as well.

If you’re not familiar with this model, this is a four piston-valved 3/4 sized CC instrument. This model was used by Chuck Daellenbach of the Canadian Brass for many years. It’s small in size, but packs a punch! I’ve enjoyed playing it for the few weeks I’ve had it.

This tuba is a “one-owner” just like the previous one I helped sell. It was bought new in the mid ‘90’s and was very well taken care of. The silver plating is 100% as is the valve plating. The valves are extremely quick and smooth. All slides pull very easily. The bell has no scratches on the rim, which makes me think it has either never been set down on the bell, or was always on a soft surface. This horn looks brand new. It comes with the original hard case, a Yamaha 66 mouthpiece, and vintage valve oil! Here are the specs from the Yamaha website:

Key: CC
Bell: 14 ⅜”
Height: 825mm, 32.5”
Bore: 0.689” - 0.728”
Valves: 4 pistons

There is only one small dent on the back and one scratch of any significance (also on the back of the bell). There are a few very small ripples on the side of the bell, towards the bottom, but I couldn’t get a good picture of it. You really wouldn’t notice it unless you were looking for it. There is also a small blob of what looks like lacquer or some sort of clear glue on the back. You can see it in the photos I took. The case is in good shape with the usual scuffs and scratches. It is missing one foot on the long side.

I have had this horn for a few weeks and have enjoyed playing it at home (brushing up on my CC fingerings), in duets with a friend, and in a brass quintet for our Christmas service at church. Like I said earlier, it’s small, but plays much bigger. There is plenty of pull on the first slide for lower register playing.

Asking price for this beauty is $5,000. This instrument is in pristine condition and of exceptional quality. It is a “one owner” and has been very well taken care of. It is located in Lincoln, NE. I am willing to drive up to 4 hours to meet a buyer. This puts me in range of buyers from Kansas City, Des Moines, Denver, Chicago, St. Louis, and Minneapolis, to name a few. I will not ship this instrument. I am open to offers, but know that they will be passed on to my friend before I can respond.

Very tempting if I was better at CC fingerings! What a nice horn, and not too far from me.

It's been fun for me to try and do CC fingerings again. I haven't really done them since college. I've been doing Bb and Eb mostly. This is a fun horn to play!
