Did I need a second CC tuba? Nope. Could I pass this one up? Nope.

Rudy Meinl 4/4 CC tuba.

Was told it's about 30 years old. It's definitely been around the block, but it's in awesome shape, smooth and quick valves and a wonderful tone.

Pictured next to my Besson 995. I believe it's an optical illusion. In reality, they seem to be the same height, but with different leadpipe heights.

I was eyeing that ad and wondering how I could feasibly make it to Columbus! Congrats!

How do the two stack up?

Much to my amazement, Corey hand delivered the tuba to me in Birmingham, AL (9hrs 1 way). I could NOT be more appreciative of him doing that. We met in the parking lot of our local Guitar Center, which happens to be right off one of the highways. For me it was shockingly convenient. Kudos to him in the highest for making that possible.

How do they stack up? TBD. Very different ergonomics. The Rudy's valve stroke is much less and butterly smooth. The Besson brass is MUCH thicker. Feels like a tank compared to the much lighter Rudy. The Rudy sounds great. I look forward to getting to know it and try it out with an ensemble. I see some customization to it in the near future.

Fantastic! Very happy for you and I hope it brings you joy.

There’s just something about old boutique handmade German makes like Rudi Meinl and Alexander that just can’t be replicated. I’m a big fan.
