Low Pitch Instruments

Hi all,

I'm currently exploring purchasing a 1920's King euphonium (low pitch instrument). I've played models from the 40's/50's and later, but never one of this vintage. No chance for me to play test it before purchasing, unfortunately.

Anyone have tuning issues with these instruments? Any need to cut tuning slides?

Thanks for any info!

Most low pitch instruments will need cut to play up to modern pitch. No worries. It is not a hard process for an experienced tech. I just restored a York monster Eb that had low pitch and high pitch slides. The low side played 40 cents flat with everything pushed in and the high side played 40 cents sharp with the main tuning slide pulled all the way out. Rather than cut the low side up, we opted to lengthen the high side. Both methods work.
