Great deal! There are two versions of this tuba: one with the 2nd valve slide angled upwards, as this one, and one with the 2nd valve slide straight out. I prefer this version because the condensation naturally drains down and out. This was on the short list when I purchased my 186 all those years ago, but it was a relatively newer model then, no used ones available, although I got to play one at a band director friend's school, sat in on a rehearsal. If I didn't already have my Bessophone, for the price it would be an automatic.

After I supplied my kids with instruments (which were not cheap for me to supply, regardless of the fact that I'm in the business), I did NOT allow them to "lose interest".

A couple of rules:
> If you don't do your chores - of don't follow through with your commitments - you don't get any privileges, and the grocery purchasing choices (yes, really...) suddenly become more "rudimentary".
> If you act out (regardless of the weather) you have to go sit out on the curb.

That would be the worst punishment of all.

On the upside, the parents were sharp enough to purchase a used instrument, then sell it after the kid lost interest. So probably not much lost investment. Not like that student trombone that I made payments on long ago...

The allen keys to remove the valve section seem like a good idea.
