I went out and looked at this. It's much rougher than the pictures show. The first valve sticks like crazy and the bad dents aren't shown well. I decided it wasn't worth my time for that price.

Years ago, I kept buying super-low-priced 186's that needed complete restorations, were VERY restorable, but weren't saleable to anyone without restoration jobs.
...I've only restored/sold one of them
because (even if they only cost my a couple hundred bucks) the WORK required to sell them for $3000 is at least $3000 of work.
I've quit buying more of them UNLESS they are quick-flips (ie. only 2 - 4 hours of work required, and with no-brainer profit potential).
Others possibly thought or wrote:...but bloke, you're in bidness. We aren't looking to make a profit when We buy tubas.
and bloke just now wrote:yeah, but when I say "$3000", some yankee and big-city shops would charge $4000 or more for cosmetic jobs only, and would ignore valve/slide issues.
and then others - in response - possibly thought or wrote:...but you can sell a restored 186 B-flat for more than $3000, can't you?
and bloke just now wrote:...to whom? you...??
